In “Penny Dreadful”, icons of classic horror stories meet. Can series fans hope for season 4 of the popular series? We’ll tell you.
“Penny Dreadful” is about the medium Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), who is looking for her best friend and neighbor’s daughter Mina Murray (Olivia Llewellyn). Mina has been missing for some time and her Father Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) suspects that she is in mortal danger. In his search for his daughter, he is happy to use any available means. As Vanessa and Malcolm continue their search, they encounter a whole host of literary horror icons, ranging from Dorian Gray (Reeve Carvey), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) to the schizophrenic Dr. Jekyll (Shazad Latif). These diverse characters would provide season 4 of the horror series with enough material for good stories.
Is “Penny Dreadful” Season 4 possible?
“Penny Dreadful” season 1 started in 2014 and consisted of eight episodes with a playing time of 48 to 54 minutes. The following year, season 2 was released, which was expanded to ten episodes. In 2016, season 3 was released with only nine episodes, which was the provisional conclusion of the series. Despite an interesting cast, which also includes Josh Hartnett and Billie Piper, the series hardly got beyond solid ratings in America. These are not the best conditions for another season.
“Penny Dreadful” continued with spin-off
The actors participating in the project and the detailed setting could not ensure that the spark jumped over to the audience. The main plot, which ended with season 3, will thus no longer be continued. Another argument against a season 4 is the fact that a spin-off titled “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” has already been filmed and appeared on Sky. The ratings of the new series concept were so bad that the project was discontinued at the end of the first season. This makes it clear that the horror stories will not return to the screens.
